Santa Claus 1

The Santa ClauseIn the spirit of the holidays I have decided to make a post about one of my all time favorite Christmas movies. I was watching TV today and a childhood classic came on, or at least for me. The movie was one of my favorites because the humor behind it is one that can never be copied, the movie is heart-filled and the start of an amazing story.

The story follows Scott Calvin (Tim Allen), a recently divorced father who hears a noise coming from outside. He goes to check what the noise is and sees Santa Clause trying to slip down his chimney. He yells at him to get down but he accidentally startles Santa, and Santa plummets off the roof and dies on Scott's front lawn. Feeling guilty Scott puts on Santa's jacket and completes his saintly duties for that Christmas with his son Charlie. The reindeer take Scott back to the north pole where he meets several, old, high spirited elves, who expect him to become Santa forever!

Scott refuses and forces the reindeer to let him return home as his life continues as it had previously. But as Christmas the next year approaches Scott begins to gain a lot of weight and his beard starts to become white. He soon realizes that the only thing that will change his miserable life is to bring up arms and become the new Santa forever.

The story closely resembles other Christmas stories of its time. One man is put in charge of saving Christmas for all of the boys and girls all around the world.

Planet of the Apes!!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
The planet of the apes was one of the most controversial movies I have ever seen because of the metaphor for a lot of different things. One of these is in the 1990's planet of the apes with Mark Wahlberg, where he experimented on the Apes and trained them to be more disposable astronauts. Then when he lands on a planet that is ruled by apes he discovers that the humans are the ones that are used as slaves by the apes. This can be a metaphor for the use of animal testing because it gives viewers a look at the other side of the story.

The newer version of the movie with James Franco was the story of the Rise of the planet of the apes. the movie itself was very appealing and coming from a movie series that had a large fan basis. Critics had very high expectations for the movie and it did not disappoint. The movie was very compelling and real drove you into the story, although there were still some flaws in the acting; for example Tom Felton played a character named Dodge which wasn't one of his best acting jobs. He throughout the entire time on camera he remained emotionless and unrealistically cruel.

Overall the movie was very gripping and is a movie that you should see at least 1 time.

The muppets (2011)

The Muppets

Original story written by actor Jason Segel to bring back the much loved Muppets from the children's comedy bank. The movie starred Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) as they venture with Gary's brother Walter, who happens to be a puppet himself, to find the Muppet's studio in Los Angeles. When they finally arrive the studio is deserted and hadn't been used by any puppet for years. As young Walter breaks off from the rest of the tour group to get a closer view of Kermit the frog's office he overhears Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) talking about his plans to destroy the studio and then drain the earth blelow it of all the oil. It is up to Walter, Gary and Mary to find Kermit, unight the Muppet's years after their break-up, and put on one last show to save their beloved studio and put a stop to Tex's evil plans once and for all.

Although meant for children, this movie is a must-see for any big fans of the Muppets. Their were even jokes thrown in there just for parents and teens. I saw it with my friends and we're all 18, but we still enjoyed every second of that movie. I don't think I've ever laughed that hard in my entire life.

127 hours

James Franco stars in director Danny Boyle's inspirational story of survival based on the incredible true story of Aron Ralston, who became trapped alone in a Utah crater for days after falling on a weak rock, and resorted to extraordinary measures in order to make it out of his drastic crisis alive. A veteran hiker and climber, Ralston (Franco) is very much in his element when he parks his truck near Moab, UT, hops on his bike, and peddles to the middle of nowhere. Later, when Ralston comes across a set of young female hikers who have gotten lost while looking for for a local landmark, he jovially shows them a sight that most casual hikers miss before bidding them goodbye and continuing on his way. Going through the canyons alone, deep in thought, however, the explorer who assumed he was ready for anything suddenly discovers just how fast things can spin out of control when a rock gives way as he falls down a crevice, and pins his hand to the unforgiving wall of stone. Over the course of the next 127 hours, Ralston tries everything he can think of to free himself, remembering small but very memorable events in his life -- as well as forward to the future that he might enjoy should he manage to escape -- as his body begins the slow process of shutting down. Finally realizing that the only way out is to leave part of himself behind, the exhausted, delirious adventurer draws his cheap multi-tool, and does what it takes to survive.
This movie is extremely inspirational a must-see for anyone with a strong stomach.

Fast 5

Former police officer Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) partners with ex convict Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) on the opposite side of the law. Dwayne Johnson joins returning cast such as Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Tego Calderon and Don Omar for this high-stakes race. Since Brian and Mia Toretto (Brewster) rescued Dom from custody, they've ridden across many borders to avoid authorities. Now cornered in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to regain their freedom. As they build their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only chance of getting out for ever means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he's not the only one on their tail. Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) never misses his target.
Although I personally believe this movie doesn't do justice to the original, it does have some good moments. When they are about to pull off the job, the one guy says "this just went from mission impossible to mission freakin' insanity"

Money Ball

Based on a true story, Moneyball is a film for anybody who has ever dreamed of themselves taking on the system. Billy Beane (brad Pitt), the general manager of the Oakland A's and the guy who constructs the team, who has an epiphany: all of baseball's normal wisdom is incorrect. Forced to reinvent his team on a tight budget, Billy Beane will have to outsmart the wealthier clubs. The onetime jock teams with Ivy League grad Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) in an unlikely partnership, recruiting cheaper players that the scouts call flawed, but all of whom have an ability to WIN games. It's more than baseball, it's a revolution. This story follows the dreams that every american man has dreamed of reinventing their favourite sport, baseball. Definitely recommend!!!

Phone Booth

Phone BoothStu Shepard (Colin Farrell) is a devious, self-centered public relations man who tries to balance a busy career with both a wife, Kelly (Radha Mitchell), and a mistress, Pamela (Katie Holmes). Stu goes into a phone booth on a busy street in New York to make a call to Pamela without Kelly finding out, but as soon as Stu hangs up, the phone strangely begins to ring. Baffled, Stu picks it up -- and a stranger on the other end (Kiefer Sutherland) tells him that if he hangs up the phone, he will be shot. The red dot of an infrared rifle scope persuades Stu to think that the caller means business, and when another man tries to make his way into the booth, he's shot mere inches from Stu, grabbing the attention of the police. Captain Ramey (Forest Whitaker) instinctively assumes that Stu was the shooter, as Stu struggles to find a way to convince the police of what's going on before more lives are lost, without stepping out of the booth and putting his own life in danger. Colin Farrell played his part to a tee, and was able to deliver an entire scene by himself in one try. An amazing movie that I strongly recommend seeing on DVD.
